The World Economic Forum (WEF) predicts that demand for last-mile delivery will rise by 78% by 2030. As a result, there will likely be a major increase in the environmental effect of this service in the coming years. Given this, it is imperative that logistics businesses take into account every option available to minimize last-mile deliveries’ carbon footprint.
At POTOLO, we’re passionate about getting you your deliveries quickly and conveniently, but we’re also committed to doing it sustainably and ensuring that we contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of our partners and customers. We plan to achieve this through our three sustainability pillars guiding our actions and decisions.
POTOLO’s Three Pillars of Sustainability
- Use of Electric bikes for deliveries: At POTOLO, we’ve ditched gas-guzzling delivery bikes for zero-emission electric bikes. Hence, decreasing the carbon impact of our partners, customers, and agents. But we believe this is just the beginning. We’re exploring more ways to lessen our environmental impact throughout our operations starting with Douala, Cameroon.
- Biodegradable Packaging: We know traditional packaging can be a burden on the environment. Hence, we‘ve carefully and intentionally opted for more biodegradable packaging that breaks down naturally. Additionally, we strive to eliminate single-use plastic packaging as best as we can.
- Cutting on Food Waste: Food waste is a major concern. We’re hoping to work with our partner restaurants to establish a program to donate leftover food from these restaurants to street children in the communities in which we operate.
